Broadcom enters the September 2026 print as an AI-infrastructure compounder whose record quarter is being priced as a risk test rather than a victory. Revenue reached $29.59 billion 12,13,29, up 86% year over year 13,26,29,30,36, with AI semiconductor sales of $16.7 billion 29, up 221% year over year 29, yet the beat was immediately judged against light forward guidance, unresolved margin mix, fragile enterprise trust around VMware, and a competitive bar set by Nvidia. 1) Risk Framework and Identification

4) Financial Risks

The September print illustrates how guidance credibility becomes valuation risk. The fiscal Q4 2026 projected revenue of $34.8 billion described as slightly below analyst expectations 12 is set against analysts expecting fourth-quarter fiscal revenue to be USD 35.03 billion 30, while the roughly $115 billion FY27 AI revenue outlook was below the approximately $123 billion bar embedded in expectations before the print 46. A commenter attribution that FY2027 AI revenue had been raised to $115 billion 39 sits alongside the projection of $230 billion in 2028 AI revenue presented in a blog post by the Dutch investment outlet YieldGraph 25. The distance between the $115-billion framing and the $230-billion aspiration defines the range of equilibria the market must price.

Margin trajectory is the second financial test. For Broadcom the mix effect is already visible: gross margin was 77.1%, then 75.0%, with approximately 73% guided as lower-margin HBM-heavy XPUs became a larger mix 46, and Broadcom has not yet demonstrated gross-margin stabilization and recovery 46. Volume doublings only help if allocation, packaging and power delivery keep pace, and growth that is merely large without being profitable commands a lower normal profit.

The $115-billion to $230-billion framing 25,39 remains debatable but becomes fundable.

For position sizing, the thesis requires a higher risk premium than a diversified semiconductor or software peer until deployment conversion, margin stabilization and renewal retention are demonstrated jointly.
